      Western Nebraska Community College head women’s basketball coach Chad Gibney has resigned to become an assistant at D-1 St Bonaventure.
WNCC has already picked his successor, but won’t announce it until Monday – Memorial Day.
Gibney was 161-24 in 6 seasons at WNCC and made the junior college national tournament each year.
He’s also been NJCAA Region IX Coach of the Year 4 times, District 1 Coach of the Year twice, and the World Exposure National Coach of the Year in 2019-20 when the Cougars were ranked 2nd at the end of the season.
St Bonaventure head coach Jesse Fleming says he’s known Gibney for almost a decade and calls him a great addition to his staff.
Gibney came to WNCC in 2016, but as an assistant with the men’s team. He was named the interim women’s coach in Jan 2017 and the permanent head coach at the end of that season.
