Woman Killed Crossing Rapid City Street

One person is dead after a fatal car versus pedestrian accident early Tuesday evening in Rapid City.

The name of the woman has not been released. Currently, no charges are pending against the driver.

Rapid City Police Patrol Division Commander James Johns says a call came just before 5 p.m. of a crash involving one vehicle and a pedestrian. The female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver was uninjured.

Commander Johns says witnesses told officers the woman was trying to cross the street in an area without a crosswalk when she was hit by an eastbound vehicle that had the right-of-way. Nearby surveillance footage corroborated the witness statements.
