Wyoming Fire Tops 80,000 Acres

The Mullen Fire near the Wyoming-Colorado state line about 40 miles southwest of Laramie grew only about 2,300-acres yesterday and now stands at 80,279 acres or 125 square miles – based on infrared measurement yesterday.

Incident Commander Jared Hohn says recent growth on the fire’s southwest edge means none of the fire perimeter is considered contained.

.    A large and growing number of firefighters continue to aggressively defend homes in Foxborough and other communities in and near the fire footprint.

There are now 738 personnel working the fire assisted by multiple aerial tankers and helicopters when the weather conditions allow

The weather remained cool yesterday but with much drier air and lower humidity, and today’s forecast calls for much warmer temperatures and continued breezy northwest winds.

Hohn says that means the potential for the fire to spread quickly is high at least through the weekend – even though the temperature should be cooler after today.

The Mullen Fire began on Sept 17 and continues to burn in extremely rugged terrain with dense vegetation and lots of beetle-killed standing and deadfall timber.
