Wyoming Records First COVID-19 Death

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – Wyoming’s status as the only state in the nation without a COVID-19 death has ended. The Wyo Dept of Health said yesterday that “an older man” from Johnson County died last week of the disease.

The man had health conditions that put him at greater risk of complications from the virus and had been hospitalized in Buffalo.

. State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist called the death “a sad development we had hoped Wyoming wouldn’t see.”

Governor Mark Gordon issued a statement saying he was saddened by the death and calling it “close to home and sadly a grim reminder of the importance of following public health orders and guidance” to reduce the number of serious illnesses and deaths in the state.

Wyoming had 275 confirmed and 98 probable cases of coronavirus/COVID as of Monday night.
