Wyoming Suicide Rate 2nd Highest In The Nation

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – A new report says Wyoming had the second-highest suicide rate in the United States in 2018, although it was lower than the year before.

The study released by the American Association of Suicidology earlier this month found 25.4 suicides for every 100,000 Wyoming residents in 2018, second only to New Mexico at 25.6. The national rate was 14.8 suicides per 100,000 people.

Wyoming’s rate in 2017 was over 27 suicides per 100,000. The age group with the highest rate of suicide in the state is 20-to-24 years old.
