Multiple Fires Reported In Dawes, Sioux Counties

Loading

Chadrad Communications has been made aware of four fires that broke out on Monday afternoon following thunderstorms in Dawes and Sioux Counties, three of which are considered active at this time.

Nebraska National Forest & Grasslands Pine Ridge District Ranger Tim Buskirk confirmed that federal crews are responding to a fire in the Belmont area adjacent to forest and grasslands area.

Buskirk did say that they anticipate little activity out of fires at this time as most areas are still seeing plenty of green vegetation.

One fire was extinguished by rains that accompanied the thunderstorms while the status of the other fires is not known at this time.

This comes a week after local and federal firefighters responded to the Eagle Eye Fire northwest of Crawford near Hudson-Meng that burned roughly 350 acres before containment.

This is a developing situation and we will pass along more information as it becomes available.
