Funeral services for 44-year old Joanna Fool Head-Brewer are Friday, July 5, 2024 at 10:00 at the Rockyford School Gymnasium in Rockyford, SD, with Mother Michelle Dayton officiating and traditional Lakota services by Hawkeye Montileaux and Sundown Montileaux

Burial is at the Montileaux Family Cemetery, Kyle, SD

A two-night wake service starts Wed, July 3, 2024 at 2:00 at the Rockyford School Gymnasium in Rockyford with roll call at 3:00 and evening services at 7:00. The second night evening services start at 5:00 on the 4th of July.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Joanna Fool Head-Brewer, a beloved and prominent community member of the Pine Ridge Reservation. Born on February 12, 1980, Joanna’s life was marked by her dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her people.

Joanna served in the public safely department for over 15 years and was a police officer for 5 years. She served with distinction, known for her thoughtfulness and deep care for the community she served. Her presence brought comfort and security to many, and her actions consistently reflected her strong sense of justice and empathy.

Joanna passed away on June 25, 2024, Victory Day. This day commemorates the Lakota’s victory over Custer and his 7th Cavalry. It is fitting that Joanna departed this world on such a day, joining the warriors and Wakinyan who took her home.

Joanna was deeply loved by everyone she met. She was a light everywhere she went, always ready to help selflessly if she knew anyone needed it. Her generosity and kindness left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a great daughter, mother, and police officer, excelling in each role with love and dedication.

Joanna’s legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of those who knew her.

She is survived by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched through her work and her kindness; Spouse, Dylan Brewer and his family; Kids, Rosie Fool Head and her spouse Michael Dillon, Alfredo Anaya, Manuelito Anaya and his spouse Breanna Jumping Eagle, Emilio Gomez, Jase Lone Hill, and Eve Lone Hill; Her Mom and Dad, Sheralda Montileaux and Manuel Fool Head; Sisters, Alvina “Lynn” Montileaux, Suzanna Trevino, Lenora Fool Head, Cassandra Fool Head, Gabriella “Elmo” Montileaux, Becky Ann Cottier, Kimimila Jack, Carrie Romero, and Shania Archambeau; Brothers, Harold Fool Head and Joseph Fool Head.

Joanna was preceded in death by Ray Fool Head, Helena Bull Bear- Montileaux, John Brewer, Dillion Montileaux, Paris Janis, Jojo Montileaux, Denise Bear Runner and Mel & Geneva Lone Hill.

Pallbearers will be Alfredo Anaya, Manuelito Anaya, Emilio Gomez, Jase Lone Hill, Antonio Richards, and Michael Dillon.
