Names Released in Double Fatality Accident in Scottsbluff

Two people died as the result of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash in Scottsbluff Tuesday.

At approximately 3:28 p.m., Scottsbluff Police were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 26 and Avenue I in response to an injury accident.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a small Nissan SUV was turning north onto Avenue I from Highway 26 while a Mazda pickup was traveling west on Highway 26, and the two vehicles collided.

The driver of the white Nissan Versa, identified as 88 year old Buford Williams of Scottsbluff, and passenger 81 year old Benita Williams of Scottsbluff both passed away due to their injuries.

The driver of the Mazda pickup, identified as 74 year old Tony Betancur of Mitchell, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Regional West, where he was treated and released.

A crash reconstruction investigation is being conducted and updates will be provided at a later date.

Seatbelts are believed to have been used by all involved in the accident.
