Tuesday evening at roughly 6PM, a wildfire was reported 6 miles north of Harrison, NE according to the Great Plains Fire Information Blog. The fire has been named the Bay Fire and is reportedly still active in the Gilbert Baker area near Milo Road.
Federal and local resources have responded to the Bay Fire including the Harrison FD, Crawford FD and US Forest Service.
Officially 1 acre has been burned so far, but it is believed to have grown since according to those on the ground. Personnel working the fire are confident in containment efforts, but high southwest winds with gusts as high as 35 mph will continue through at least this (Wednesday) evening in Harrison.
Storms passing through the panhandle and Sioux County Tuesday afternoon are confirmed to be the cause of the fire due to the stormsโ cloud-to-ground lightning.
