2023 Chadron Rotary Colter Run Attracts About 100 Runners With Another 40+ “Lil Buckskinners”

After winning six of the 5-kilometer races the last nine times they have taken place, Chadron native Phil Duncan moved up to the 10-kilometer race for the first time and won it during the Colter Run at Fur Trade Days in Chadron on Saturday.

The 10-K runner-up was Dillon Stansbury of Crawford, who had won that event six times in a row before skipping it last year.

The women’s 10K winner was Jacki Musgrave of Bingham, Neb., who also won the event in 2018 and 2019, before settling for second place the past two years.  Musgrave is used to running much longer distances.

She has run marathons that are 26 miles, 365 yards in 48 of the 50 states, and plans to run her 49th marathon in New York in October and her 50th in Hawaii in January.

This year’s men’s 5K winner was Alejandro Garcia, a native of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., who now teaches at the Creek Valley Schools in Chappell.  Duncan, Stansbury and Garcia are all former Chadron State College cross country runners. 

The women’s 5K winner was Lillie Uhing, who wll be a freshman at Chadron High this fall.  

There were about 100 entries in the 5K and 10K races and another 40 of so kids 10 and under who enthusiastically entered the first ‘Lil Buckskinners one-mile race.  It was the first time the latter race has taken place. 

The Chadron Rotary Club sponsor the Colter Run, which dates back to 1980.
