Chadron State College has fewer new faculty members than usual this year with only 7 coming in for the start of the fall semester.
Five of the 7 were already familiar with CSC, either by holding a degree from the school or having grown up in Western Nebraska.
That’s true of both new members of the Justice Studies faculty. Dr Adam Hoesing was a 2009 graduate while Dr Tiffany Wasserburger is both a Chadron native and a 1997 CSC graduate.
The other CSC graduate joining the faculty is Natural Sciences instructor Kinsley Mason, a former Eagle softball player who earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees over the past 3 years at Chadron State.
Education instructor Jessica Heesacker is a Hay Springs native returned to the Northern Panhandle in 2017, while fellow Education instructor Dr Miranda Scoggan is another area native is excited to return from Wyoming
New to CSC and the area are Adrianna Calle of the Social Work program, and Physics and Chemistry instructor Dr Clint Evrard.
SCHOOL OF LIBERAL ARTS
Dr. Adam A Hoesing is an Assistant Professor in Justice Studies. He graduated from CSC in 2009 from the Justice Studies department, with a B.A. in Legal Studies. In 2012, he graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law.
“It is great to be back; teaching in the same program I graduated from. I look forward to continuing the strong tradition and values of the program,” he says.
During law school, he served on the Nebraska Law Review as an executive editor and earned the Order of the Coif. After law school, he joined Simmons Olsen in Scottsbluff, NE, and practiced general civil law including real estate, commercial, natural resources, probate, estate planning, bankruptcy, municipal, litigation support, and appellate practice.
Hoesing became a partner at Simmons Olsen in 2016 and a corporate officer in 2020. He will teach Introduction to Legal Studies (LS 231), Legal Research and Writing (LS 238), Constitutional Law (LS/CJ/PS 333), Litigation and Civil Procedure (LS 232), Family Law (LS 236), Legal Research and Writing II (LS 338), and Ethics and Professional Responsibility (LS 436).
Dr Tiffany A Wasserburger is an Associate Professor in Justice Studies. She grew up in Chadron and graduated from CSC. Before starting law school in 1997, she served as a Legislative Aide for one year at the Nebraska Unicameral. “I’m excited to be back at CSC where my professional journey began,” she said.
After graduating with her Juris Doctorate from UNL’s College of Law, she worked with Legal Aid, the Scotts Bluff County Attorney’s Office, and was the Criminal Justice Program Director at Western Nebraska Community College from 2014 until joining CSC.
Wasserburger has been a presenter at the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences National Conference and was named to the Top 10 Defenders by the Animal Legal Defense Fund during National Justice for Animals Week in 2009.
She will teach Introduction to Criminal Justice (CJ 231), Introduction to Law (CJ/LS/PS 337), Criminal Law (CJ 331), Real Estate Law (LS 434), Rules of Evidence (CJ/LS 433), Juvenile Delinquency (CJ/SOC 332), and Criminal Procedure (CJ/LS 334)
SCHOOL OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES AND APPLIED SCIENCES
Adrianna Calle is an Assistant Professor in Social Work whose profession until now as a mental health therapist. “This is my first time teaching in higher education,” she says. “I wanted to expand my horizons.” she said.
Calle graduated from the U-S Air Force Academy in 2011, the Air Force Institute of Technology in 2013, and the University of Central Florida in 2019. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and will teach Policy Analysis and Advocacy (SW 434), Services to Elderly and Differently Abled (SW 332), and Pre-Field and Orientation (SW 459).
Jessica Heesacker is an Instructor in Education. She earned a bachelor’s in Education and Human Sciences, and Social Science and Coaching from UNL, a master’s in School Leadership from Concordia University, and is pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Liberty University.
Heesacker says “Working at CSC will allow me to work alongside a team of individuals who are as passionate about teaching and education as I am. I am eager and excited to be a part of guiding and partnering with the next generation of teachers.”
Most recently, she was principal and dean of students at Red Cloud Indian School in Pine Ridge, SD, after being a teacher, director, and principal at the Denver School of Technology. She was also a teacher and administrator at the Austin Business and Entrepreneurship Academy in Chicago.
At CSC, Heesacker will teach Introduction to Teaching (EDUC 131), Assessment Foundations (EDUC 329), and Secondary/MS Assessment (EDUC 418S).
Dr Miranda Scoggan is an Instructor in Education. She earned a bachelor’s in Education and Special Education and a master’s in Learning and Technology from Western Governors University and a doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Special Education from Northcentral University.
Scoggan returns from Wyoming, where she taught Special Education and behavior in Chugwater and was a District Case Manager in Wheatland, Wyoming. She is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.
She says “My previous work experiences led me to pursue a Ph.D. in education. Those experiences also helped me realize that special education is my passion and higher education is where I can reach my full potential as an educator.”
Scoggan will teach Introduction to the Exceptional Learner (SPED 230), Assessing Individuals with Mild to Moderate Disabilities (SPED 435/535), Special Education Practices and Strategies (SPED 444), and Assessment and Diagnosis of Young Children (SPED 640), and Characteristics of Learning Disabilities (SPED 555).
SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, MATHEMATICS, AND SCIENCE
Dr. Clint Evrard is an Instructor of Physics and Chemistry with a bachelor’s in Physics from Indiana State University, and both a master’s in Computational Chemistry/Materials Physics and a doctorate in Electronic Structure Theory/Computational Quantum Materials from the University of Louisville.
He lectured and taught online classes at Louisville for 5 years and has presented talks and posters at several professional conferences while publishing several research articles, including his dissertation, in professional journals.
Evrard says he values CSC’s campus environment and the benefits it offers students. “I enjoy being able to know my students so I can make adjustments based on their needs. CSC is the perfect environment for that.” He will teach College Chemistry I and lab (CHEM 131/131L) and College Physics I and lab (PHYS 151/151L).
Kinsley Mason is an Instructor in Natural Sciences who was a true student-athlete at Chadron State. A member of the softball team, she also earned a NASA Nebraska Fellowship and made several Nebraska Academy of Sciences presentations.
After earning a bachelor’s in Molecular Biology, she went on to receive a master’s in Science Education while serving as a graduate assistant and adjunct faculty in Natural Sciences and as a softball coaching assistant.
Mason will teach Physical Science for Elementary and Middle Grades Teacher (GEOS 129), Astronomy (GEOS 138), Planetary Geology for Educators (GEOS 312), Ancient Monuments (FYI 169AU), College Chemistry I lab (CHEM 131L), College Chemistry II lab (CHEM 132L), Survey of Chemistry lab (CHEM 140L), and Organic Chemistry lab (CHEM 333L). She will also coordinate shows at the Lois Veath Planetarium.
