This is Day 2 of the 47th Chadron Fur Trade Days Celebration with events running from 9:00 this morning to 1:00 tonight, highlighted by a fireworks show just north of the railroad tracks and a street dance in the middle of downtown.
The start of more events today will further complicate travel already a little more difficult since the 100 and 200 blocks of Bordeaux and East 2nd were closed Monday for the Carnival
Police Chief Rick Hickstein says the 100 block of West 4th is closed for activities at the Courthouse lawn and downtown is closing at 3:00 for the street dances tonight and tomorrow – making downtown a giant beer garden if you have the Fur Trade Days Cup.
Today’s schedule actually began downtown at 9:00 with a new event, an art show. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Gabby Michna, one of the creators of the Chadron Art Alley mural program, says the show is limited to local artists.
Art Show coordinator and Chadron High School art teacher Travis Hencey says better than 2 dozen artists are showing between 40 and 50 pieces.
Activity at the Courthouse lawn started with the morning session of the Nerf blaster war by Thermopolis Nerf. There’s another from 2-to-6:00. The popular Black Hills Raptor Center offers a show at 12:30 with 1:00 bringing mini-golf and a giant slip ‘n’ slide waterslide.
Fur Trade Days President Kevin Oleksy says 5:00 brings the opening at and around the Courthouse lawn of one of the weekend’s original events – the Traders Market.
The Traders Market runs from 8-5:00 tomorrow as well.
