Post Playhouse Adding July Film Series; Local Auditions Tonight

Loading

The Fort Robinson Post Playhouse is expanding its offerings this summer with a special 3-week free movie musical series on Sunday nights when the theater is normally closed.

Board President Janelle Visser says the film series is the idea of the theater’s new artistic leadership team of Artistic Director Dewayne Barrett and Managing Director Ken Phillips.

The three films are true musicals, but very different from each other – The Rocky Horror Picture Show on July 14th, Singing in the Rain on the 21st, and Little Shop of Horrors on the 28th. Visser says they were picked by Barrett and Phillips

Visser also reminds local actors of all ages who’d like to be part of the ensemble for two of this summer’s shows – SpongeBob Squarepants the Musical and The Wizard of Oz – that auditions are being held tonight

They’re at Chadron State College in the Black Box Theater on the 2nd floor of Memorial Hall, starting at 5:00. All local children, teens, and adults who think they’d like to perform alongside the professional cast in one or both the shows

Visser says everyone trying out needs to have a 1-minute song prepared with an accompanist provided for those with sheet music and sound equipment for those with recorded music.

Auditioners may be asked to read from the scripts, and all will be taught a small dance combination, so they need to wear shoes they can dance in – not flip-flops.

And Visser says Artistic Director Dewayne Barrett, Managing Director Ken Phillips, and the board can’t wait for tomorrow night and the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Post Playhouse – the annual Raffle at the park in the Buffalo Soldiers Barracks.

Only 400 tickets were printed and all have been sold for the event, which includes food, games, and a cash bar in addition to the drawings which have a top prize of $5,000.
