The Chadron Platte Valley Bank American Legion Post 12 juniors and seniors went to Gering for a doubleheader Wednesday night and both suffered setbacks during the trip.
In the juniors game a hot start for Chadron was not enough. Chadron sprinted out to a 4-2 lead after the first inning. Chadron then added three runs in the top of the third to get the score to 7-2 after three innings. Gering chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the fourth, cutting it to 7-3 after four innings. The fifth and final inning is where the wheels came off for Chadron, the bats were cooled but Gering was able to get a rally going, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the inning to pull off the walk-off 8-7 win over Chadron. Braden Wright went 1-4 with two RBI’s, James Korber went 1-1 with a walk and an RBI. The juniors fall to 8-4 on the season.
The Chadron seniors suffered another let down, falling to Gering by a 12-4 score. Chadron struck first in the top of the first scoring two runs with Caden Buskirk having a say in both runs, driving in Logan Salma on an RBI double before scoring on a wide pitch.
Gering pushed back in a major way chasing the Chadron starter after scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Gering added a run in the second and third innings leading to a 12-4 win over Chadron. Buskirk went 3-3 with two RBI’s.
The seniors drop to 4-9 on the season.
