Candice Alder, Economic Development Director for the City of Norfolk and Norfolk Area Economic Development Council, was named the 2024 Nebraska Economic Developers Association (NEDA) Local Professional of the Year – Practitioner, at NEDA’s recent annual conference. The award recognizes Alder’s contributions to significant economic growth in the Norfolk area over the past several years.
During her time in economic development, Norfolk has seen over $500 million in new construction and expansion projects by businesses and industries since 2017. The community has also added an estimated 1,100 new housing units valued at $156 million during that time. “I’m honored to receive this prestigious award from NEDA,” said Alder. “The progress we’ve achieved is really a testament to the collaborative efforts of our growth-minded business leaders, engaged community, and many partners.” Alder, who also chaired the local planning committee for the 2024 NEDA Annual Conference in Norfolk, was presented the award by 2023 NEDA Professional of the Year and Phelps County Development Corporation Executive Director, Ron Tillery, during the conference kickoff event at Divots Conference Center.
In his remarks Ron shared, “She’s employed skills in planning, diplomacy, persuasion, and practiced determination across every conceivable segment of economic development. Truly an example of “placemaking” her community is undergoing a renaissance and is rapidly becoming the jewel of Northeast Nebraska.”
In her role, Alder assists with business recruitment, retention, and expansion efforts across Madison County. She also plays an instrumental role in redevelopment projects, placemaking initiatives, Norfolk Now community promotion, and workforce attraction efforts as part of the Northeast Nebraska Growing Together regional growth plan. With over 15 years of experience, Alder is grateful for the chance to contribute to the Norfolk Area’s continued economic growth and progress.
