Memorial services for 63-year old Dawes County native Nick Lecher were held earlier this month on June 13, 2024, in Port St Lucie, Fla.
A special memorial planned this fall at Port St Lucie High School.

Bernard Nicolas “Nick” Lecher Jr – a man of integrity, strength, and humor – was born Dec 28, 1960 in Chadron, NE, and passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024, at 4:23 am in Port St Lucie, FL.
Nick graduated from Crawford High School in 1979 and pursued higher education at Chadron State College, earning his BS in Social Studies in 1984.
In 1986, Nick married the love of his life, Liz (Oates) Lecher, in Blytheville, AK. Liz, an ESE teacher at Port S. Lucie High School, went on to stand by his side for 38 wonderful years
In 1988, Nick and Liz moved to Florida, where Nick embarked on a long and impactful career as a teacher at Port St Lucie High. From 1988 to 2024, he inspired countless students with his passion for education and his remarkable sense of humor.
In 2003, Nick expanded his professional endeavors into the financial sector, specializing in fixed annuities and securities. He successfully managed over 1,000 clients, earning their respect and trust.
Nick had a love for golf, engaging in conversations about finances, and leisurely spending Sundays watching golf with his beloved French bulldog. He was also a fervent fan of the Dallas Cowboys and college football.
Nick’s many travels took him to Ireland, Portugal, Italy, Mexico, and several Baltic countries, enriching his life with diverse experiences.
Nick’s final moments were spent in his favorite recliner, surrounded by his devoted wife and Frenchie, after an 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Nick leaves behind a legacy of laughter, wisdom, and unwavering loyalty.
Nick is survived by his wife Liz; brothers Michael (Diana) Lecher and Chris (Christy) Lecher; his cherished nieces and nephews: Alex Smith, Jessica Lecher-Wasson, Sarah Lecher, Keely Lecher, Ashley Lecher, Taylor Oates, and Seth Oatees; his loyal French bulldog Jake E – a constant companion and source of joy; and his close friends Charles Moore, Mark Cowles, Doug Atwood, Mike Rotherham, and Tom Burto – who will forever remember his vibrant spirit
Nick was predeceased by his parents Bernard and Harriet Lecher.
