Aurora, Nebraska native Baylor Scheierman got selected with the 30th pick in the NBA draft Wednesday night by the Boston Celtics. Schiereman was high school teammates with former Nebraska tight end Austin Allen during their high school days.
Schiereman went on to star at South Dakota State for three years before transferring to Creighton. At Creighton he started all 72 games he played in for a Jays team that went to a Sweet 16 and an Elite Eight.
In his college career he averaged 13.8 points her game, 15.8 while at Creighton and played in 162 games.
Another player with regional ties that got drafted is Dalton Knecht. Knecht was selected 17th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. He started his college career at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. The Thornton, Colorado native averaged 21.7 points per game in his three years of Division one basketball between Northern Colorado and Tennessee.
