The Chadron Platte Valley Bank American Legion Post 12 juniors and seniors headed down Highway 385 last night to take on Alliance. The juniors lost a heartbreaker 8-7 while the seniors took care of business winning 8-1.
The juniors got behind early being down 4-1 after the bottom of the second. They were able to get four runs past in the top of the third to take a short lead but Alliance got a run in to tie the game up at five after three innings. Alliance pushed three runs across in the bottom of the forth to take an eight to five lead into the final frame.
Chadron scratched and clawed two runs back but could not get the final run through losing by an 8-7 final.
Derek Bissonette went 3-3 with three doubles and drove in three RBI’s.
The Chadron seniors found themselves in an early pitchers duel as they were held scoreless until the fourth inning when things changed for the good. Alliance scored a first inning run with Espen Lanik scoring off a Kaden Ferguson groundout, but that was all the Spartians had for runs. It was the fourth inning when Chadron really got going, scoring four in the fourth, one in the fifth and added three more to the tally in the sixth to pull off the 8-1 win.
Caden Buskirk went the entire way on the mount allowing six hits, one run, striking out five while walking none.
Buskirk was also huge on offense going 3-4 with three runs. Broc Berry went 3-4 with a double and an RBI as well.
The juniors are now 12-8 while the seniors improve to 7-11. Both teams head down to Sidney Tuesday night with the juniors starting at five.
