A plot of land east of Chadron has been rezoned for general commercial use at the request of the current landowners.

Lee Sayaloune addressed the Chadron City Council Monday and asked that the agricultural
zoning be changed to commercial for the property on Alpha Road, which lies within the city’s two-mile zoning jurisdiction. Sayaloune noted that he purchased a body shop about 18 months ago, and also wants to be able to sell a limited number of vehicles each month.

Salvaged vehicles will be taken directly to the salvage yard to avoid unsightly piles of steel.
Zoning Administrator Janet Johnson said the planning commission recommended approval of the change in June. The property would be eligible for any type of general commercial use in the future, though the lack of city water and sewer would limit the feasibility of many commercial businesses, she said.

Menke and city council members wished the public a safe Fourth of July holiday and noted that with Fur Trade Days around the corner now is the time to mow and trim weeds and branches to spruce up the city and comply with ordinances.
