The Pleasant Valley Fire, which started near Guernsey, WY last week continues to rage on although crews have managed to contain nearly 40% of the blaze as of yesterday (Aug 5) afternoon.
Although the fire is trending in the right direction, the most recent reports show roughly 29,000 acres of the Cowboy State have burned after the Pleasant Valley Fire merged with the Haystacks Fire. It’s been determined the Haystacks Fire was caused by a lighting strike, but the original Pleasant Valley Fire’s origins are still unknown.
Weather forecasts unfortunately indicate the area is due for more dry and windy conditions- at least until Wednesday evening, which only makes the fight more difficult for firefighters.
Even as crews work to completely contain the state’s currently-largest fire in Pleasant Valley, it remains just one of five more active fires across Wyoming.
Which according to fireweatheravalanche.org includes the Badger Fire north of Sheridan, the Wildcat Creek Fire southeast of Wright and burning at nearly 15,000, the 1800 acre Cold Springs Fire southwest of Douglas, and the 1800 acre Clearwater Fire in Shoshone National Forest.
