A familiar face is leaving Chadron City Hall. City Clerk Donna Rust announced her retirement after 51 years serving the city during Mondayโ€™s council meeting. Her final day will be Sept. 30.

โ€œI didnโ€™t think this day would ever come,โ€ Rust said, telling the council sheโ€™s set several retirement dates over the last few years. โ€œThose dates have come and gone.โ€

Now, however, she is looking forward to enjoying time with her family. โ€œIโ€™ve been blessed with over 50 years of government experience and knowledge,โ€ Rust said. โ€œItโ€™s been an amazing and incredible journey.โ€ Each day was different, creating many memories over five decades. Rust said she tried to embrace the challenges the job brought and expressed her deep gratitude to the citizens of Chadron for a rewarding career that allowed her personal and professional growth.

โ€œItโ€™s been an honor to serve.โ€

Council members thanked her for her service.

โ€œIt goes without saying that the city is fortunate to have you be here all these years,โ€ said Mayor George Klein.
