The Chadron Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Chadron have secured federal funding to replace its ladder truck.
City Manager Tom Menke told the city council Monday that Senator Deb Fischer confirmed last week that as long as the purchase price stays within the estimated $1.4 million, the cost of the truck will be fully funded by federal grant dollars. There had been some question as to the amount of the grant earlier this summer.
“This is a huge relief for our community to have a resource like that, and I’d like to thank Sen.
Fischer and her staff,” Menke said.
City council members Joe Johndreau and Shane Shepherd echoed that sentiment.
“Her dedication to finding funding for Chadron…it has been incredible to see the process,”
Johndreau said.
“That’s a big burden off a town this size’s back,” Shepherd added.
