Broncos Lose Season Opener

Loading

The high hopes of the start of a new era were dashed on Sunday as the Denver Broncos fell to the Seattle Seahawks 26-20.

The Broncos led off the game with a Will Lutz 30 yard field goal after a Seahawks turnover gave the Broncos great field position. Seattle responded last in the first quarter with a 50 yard field goal of their own to make it 3-3.

The drive chart from the second quarter is one of the more odd ones you will ever see as the Broncos forced two safeties and kicked two field goals while the Seahwaks had a 34 yard touchdown run from quarterback Geno Smith then failed on a two point conversion try. The Broncos ended up taking a 13-9 lead into the halftime break.

It was all Seattle in the second half as they scored 17 unanswered points to take a 26-13 lead. First round draft pick Bo Nix was able to find the endzone late on a four yard run but an interception in the final two minutes sealed the deal as the Seattle Seahawks won 26-20.

Nix was 26/42 with 138 yards and two interceptions. The Broncos as a team had only 231 yards. Seattle had 304 yards, 171 from Smith through the air and 130 from Kenneth Walker lll.

The 0-1 Broncos now get ready to face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers and possibly former quarterback Russell Wilson in the Broncos home opener on Sunday.
