Chadron Cardinals Run Past Swedes

Loading

The Chadron Cardinals are 4-0 for the first time since 2021 after their 22-6 win over the Gothenburg Swedes Friday Night. Quinn Bailey put on another show with all three touchdowns, two on the ground and one receiving as he had nearly 300 rushing yards.

Defense was the story of the game as neither team was able to get much going in the first quarter. However, the Cardinals were able to get on the board with a Bailey 16 yard touchdown run as the Cardinals led 8-0.

During the second quarter Gothenburg had a really good looking drive going and got down inside the redzone. Then on a pass towards the back corner of the endzone junior defensive back Tobin Meyer went up and took the ball away from the Swede wide receiver and stopped a promising drive. The score at the half was 8-0 Cardinals.

The beginning of the second half saw Gothenburg get on the scoreboard, returning the opening kickoff 88 yards to the endzone for the second kick return touchdown allowed by the Cardinals this season. The two point conversion was no good after the Gothenburg quarterback overthrew his target.ย

Chadron was able to regain the lead later in the quarter after head coach Michael Sandstrom called a trick play. Bailey lined up at quarterback with Tobin Landen lining up as the far side wide receiver. A Cardinal came in motion and got the handoff from Bailey, and then pitched it to Landen as Bailey was running a swing route to the near side. Landen found Bailey who ran it in from 21 yards out to make it 14-6 Cardinals after the two point conversion try was no good.

The score after the third quarter was 14-6 Chadron with the lead.

The fourth quarter was a running showcase by Bailey as he marched down the field for four-five yards every carry, eventually getting into the endzone off a three yard carry. The two point conversion was good as the Cardinals solidified their 22-6 win.

Bailey now has over 1,000 passing yards in just four games. The Cardinals defense through four games has only allowed two touchdowns.

The Cardinals are now 4-0 on the season and will travel to Ogallala on Friday Night. We will have that game on 610am KCSR with pregame at 5:30 and kick following at 6.

Gothenburg is 2-2 and faces top rated Sidney on Friday.
