Saturday afternoon, Custer State Park released a statement on reopening areas of the park after being closed for the containment of the Cathedral Wildfire.
“Thanks to the incredible efforts of our wildland firefighters and local emergency management teams, the fire spread was kept to a small area.
As of October 5, 2024, the following areas are back open: Needles Highway, Sylvan Lake, Cathedral Spires and Trails 9 and 4.
Please note that Little Devils Tower Trail will remain closed for the next several days. We ask visitors to please honor that closure and stay off the trail.

The Cathedral Fire was held to less than one acre and was fully contained by 3PM Friday afternoon according to Great Plains Fire Information.
