By Rep. Adrian Smith
My service in Congress is fundamentally about hearing and addressing the concerns of Third District Nebraskans. In addition to representing your interests as Congress considers legislation, I devote significant effort to ensuring the federal government functions appropriately and fulfills its obligations to you as a taxpayer. While I hear from as many Nebraskans as I can when I am home, my offices in Washington, D.C., Grand Island, Nebraska City, and Scottsbluff provide additional opportunities for you to connect with me and let me know how I can be of assistance.
Throughout the year, congressional caseworkers on my staff work tirelessly to help constituents with federal agencies, including issues with Social Security, Medicare, Veterans Affairs, the Internal Revenue Service, and obtaining passports and visas. If you can’t get an answer from a federal agency in a timely fashion, or if you feel you have been treated unfairly, my office may be able to help resolve a problem or get you the information you need. While we cannot guarantee you a favorable outcome, we will do our best to help you receive a fair and timely response to your problem.
Reaching out with your concerns can be done by calling any of my offices or through the contact page on my website at adriansmith.house.gov. Throughout the year my staff are also available to connect at outreach events held throughout the Third District. For updates on the time and location of these events, follow me on social media or check my website.
The casualties and devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton highlight the importance of a robust federal response to help Americans in need following a disaster. Our state has overcome many challenges over the years, and Nebraskans know recovery takes an all-hands-on-deck effort. This year my office worked hard to assist constituents with disaster claims in the aftermath of extreme winter storms, wildfires, severe thunderstorms, and tornadoes which caused Nebraskans millions of dollars in damages. We succeeded in these efforts by working together with Governor Pillen and Nebraskaโs entire congressional delegation to support assistance and recovery.
One of the most common agencies I help constituents navigate is the IRS. Unfortunately notorious for poor service and response times, the IRS should exist to serve taxpayers, not work against them. In fact, my bill with Rep. Michelle Steel (R-CA) to cut back bloated IRS funding used to weaponize audits on middle class taxpayers instead of improving taxpayer service was the first bill passed by the House this Congress.
Additionally, I stand ready to assist any veteran in the Third District who is having issues with the VA or any other federal agency. Health care access in general is an important issue in rural areas like Nebraska, and especially for our stateโs veterans. Caring for our nationโs sick and disabled veterans and their families is a sacred obligation โ one promised to them when they volunteered or were selected for their service. If you are a veteran living in the Third District and have questions, please do not hesitate to contact any of my offices or contact me via my website.
Government doesnโt always work as smoothly as it should, but Iโm fighting for efficiency in the federal government so it can better serve Third District Nebraskans. If you want to express your opinion on a legislative issue, need help navigating federal paperwork, would like to order flags flown over the U.S. Capitol, or book tours in D.C., my office stands ready to assist you. I look forward to hearing from you.
