Northern Lights Make Another Panhandle Appearance this Weekend

Loading

People in the panhandle of Nebraska were blessed with their second opportunity in less than a year to witness a phenomenal event that can otherwise only be seen if you travel far enough north. The Aurora Borealis, or known simply as the Northern Lights, made an appearance this past weekend in our own backyards.

Many social media pages were flooding with awe inspiring images of the event that took place once already this year back in early May. Although the northern lights can be visible from Nebraska on some occasions, it’s hard to predict how often. The sun’s activity and solar winds play a huge role in how often Nebraskans get to experience this kind of activity.

The Aurora Borealis is caused by positively charged particles from the Sun reacting with the magnetic field of the Earth’s atmosphere.
