ALAMOSA, Colo. โ The Adams State volleyball team swept Chadron State in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match Saturday night. The scores were 25-14, 25-23, 25-15.
The Grizzlies led from start to finish in both the first and third sets. The second set was much more closely contested with 16 ties and seven lead changes. The Eagles were ahead 23-21 in the second set, but Adams State garnered the final four points.
It was the first time the Eagles had been swept in their six matches played so far in October, but they could not hit the ball well enough to be competitive. Adams State had 51 kills and Chadron State just 23, the team’s fewest since the first match of the season.
The Grizzlies finished with a .324 hitting percentage, the third highest by a CSC opponent this fall, while the Eagles hit just .092. In addition, CSC had 16 blocking errors, 10 more than in any other match this season.
Three Grizzlies reached double digits in kills, led by Cindy Garcia with 16 and Angela Youngs with 13. Youngs had just one hitting error in 20 attempts for a .600 hitting percentage.
Junior Bo French’s six kills led Chadron State. She had just one hitting miscue in 17 attempts for a .294 percentage. CSC sophomore Avery Lacy came up with a match-high 11 digs. Chadron State libero Alondra Hernandez had just seven digs, ending her streak of recording double-digit digs in every match so far in 2024. The Eagles had just one serving error; Adams State had nine. Each team was credited with one solo block and eight assisted blocks.
Adams State is now 5-14 for the season and 2-4 in the RMAC. CSC is 4-14 and 0-8.
Next up, the Eagles will host Colorado Mesa at 6pm on Tuesday, October 22 in the Chicoine Center. The No. 17-ranked Mavericks are second in the RMAC standings with a 7-1 record and are 15-3 overall.
