The Chadron community got festive and in the spirit of the Halloween and Autumn season this past weekend. Friday saw a couple of community events that led up to Chadron Cardinal football.
The annual Trunk or Treat took place in downtown Chadron and brought in hundreds of trick-or-treaters of all ages. Trunks and organizations gave out lots of candy. Some set up fun activities, and others shared information about their organization.
Activity goers were also encouraged to stop by the Chadron Fire Station two blocks to the west to attend the Annual City Employees Chili Cook Off. There were eight different chilis to taste test and vote on.
With a $7 entry for all you can eat chili, Chadron Fire Chief Branden Martens says $962 was reported from the city for total funds raised. Receiving the most votes, the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department took home the prize for best chili.
