LAKEWOOD, Colo. โ Seeking to clinch a bid in the RMAC Tournament, a motivated Colorado Christian volleyball team jumped on Chadron State early and often in a straight sets victory for the Cougars over the Eagles in Colorado. The set scores were 25-16, 25-12, 25-15.
Kendyl Kirkwood recorded a double-double with 14 assists and 10 digs, her 10th double-double of the season. Reigning RMAC Defensive Player of the Week Alondra Hernandez finished with 14 digs, an average of 4.7 per set.
Offensively, Kally Kirkwood recorded seven kills for CSC, her fifth consecutive match leading the Eagle attack in kills. Kirkwood also took over the team lead for kills on the season with 182. Behind Kirkwood, Aiyana Fujiyama had six kills while Mataya Ward had five.
For the match, Chadron State hit .050, with 24 kills against 19 attack errors. Colorado Christian hit .356 for the match, including a .591 hitting percentage in the second set as the Cougars hit 14 kills against one error in 22 attempts.
The Eagles finished with six total blocks, with Bella Adams (three), Kendyl Kirkwood (two) and Fujiyama (two, one solo) contributing to that total. Kendyl Kirkwood and Avery Lacy each recorded a service ace.
The Eagles (5-20, 1-12 RMAC) have one regular season match remaining, this Friday against New Mexico Highlands (5-19, 2-10 RMAC). With the win, Colorado Christian (16-9, 8-5 RMAC) clinched a top-eight finish in the RMAC and held on to sixth place in the standings.
