Marty Averil Mesteth, Sr. was born on June 11, 1956 in Pine Ridge, SD to Daniel and Alberta (Little Whiteman) Mesteth. Marty made his journey to the Spirit World on November 11, 2024 at his home in Kyle, SD.
Today we say with sad but proud hearts travel safe and always remember us to our Ate’Marty Mesteth Sr. A loved Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle and Grandpa but above all else an Akicita as an Officer in Law Enforcement for the Oglala Sioux Tribe and its Oyate at an unwavering 25 years. Marty chose to be a protector and stand fearlessly for many as he patrolled and took this responsibility seriously as it was how he believed in doing what’s right to make the world safe for all especially his family who he is very proud of and loves with great admiration.
After closing his chapter in law enforcement, Marty carried on his dedication to providing protection to the Oyate by working with Little Wound School as a security guard keeping the school safe for our children and his many takoja’s. Through this career, he formed many bonds and has many kolas who have been part of his life until the day he made the heartbreaking and difficult decision to move onto his next life with Tunkasila and say Toksa Ake’ as we never say goodbye because we never leave the ones we love but sometimes have a journey that can only be traveled briefly on our own until we meet those we love again.
