The Chadron Cardinals boys and girls wrestling teams were at the OโNeil Invite back on Saturday. The boys had 18 wrestlers competing at the varsity level with one JV wrestler while the girls had nine wrestlers compete.
In boys there were six wrestlers who placed. Colin McCoy went 3-1 to finish fifth, Carson Long at 132 went 2-3 and finished eighth. At 165 pounds Zane Cullers took fifth with a 4-1 record, in the 175 pound class Braden Wright was 2-3 to finish 8th. Cade Smith went 2-3 to finish eighth at 190 and Fletcher Stewart went 2-3 at heavyweight to finish eight. At the JV level Carter Keller went 4-0 to finish first at 175.
Other wrestlers competing for the Cardinals at the varsity level included Keigan Vanderhoef (1-1), Tayven Jenkins (1-2), Reid Griese (1-2), Kael Bennett (2-2), Peyton Forsberg (1-2), Jayce Hoffman (2-2). Nathaniel Stehle was 1-2, Matt Lien (1-1), Layne Davidson (2-2), Bricen Wright (2-2), Max Brodrick (0-3), and Leo Golembiewski (3-1).
In girls there seven of the nine wrestlers placed. Josie Werner went 3-1 to finish second at 105, Bristol Prado went 4-1 to finish fifth at 125, Graycen OโDonnell was 3-2 at 140 to finish sixth. Adday Tewahade went 4-1 to finish second at 145, Addison Diers was 3-1 at 155 to finish third, and Vivian Golembiewski finished fourth with a 2-2 record at 170.
In addition to the boys and girls wrestling teams competing in OโNeil, Quinn Bailey competed in Ohio at the Ironman which is considered the nations toughest tournament. Bailey went 1-2, losing in the first round, getting past an Omaha Skutt Kid in the first consultation match then falling to end his effort in the tournament. The Cardinal wrestling teams will compete in Valentine and Gordon later in the week.
