Cardinals Basketball Home For the Weekend

The Chadron Cardinals girls and boys basketball teams open up the Birdcage for the first time this season with games vs Gordon-Rushville and Gering this weekend. Both the Cardinals teams are 0-1 on the season with the girls falling to Sidney 62-11 with the boys falling to Sidney as well by a 45-28 score.

Both Gordon-Rushville girls and boys teams come to Chadron with the same record, but how they got to 2-1 is different. The girls team opened up their season with a 40-30 win over Hemingford at home. They went to Ainsworth the following night and fell 48-34. The third game of the season for the Mustangs saw them win at home over Crawford 37-26.

The boys Mustangs started off their season with a 68-42 loss vs Hemingford. Since then they have won two games by a combined two points. They took down Ainsworth 53-52, then snuck by Crawford 40-39. 

The Gering Bulldogs come in with a 1-2 record for both the girls and boys. How they got there is similar, with wins over Alliance a week ago, then falling to both Sidney and Bridgeport. 

The Bulldogs girls defeated Alliance 52-22 at Alliance and then in two home games vs powerhouses the Bulldogs fell to Sidney 67-66 and then to Bridgeport 83-72 back on Tuesday. 

The Gering boys opened up their season with a 62-46 win at Alliance, then the next day fell to Class C-1 contender Sidney 65-45. Back on Tuesday the Bulldogs went toe to toe with Bridgeport, falling 66-65. 

Both nights will be broadcast on 610am KCSR and chadrad.com with Chase Thompson on the call. Tune in Friday and Saturday evenings with pregame projected for a 5:15 start both nights with the girls game at 5:30 and the boys to follow.
