The Chadron Cardinals wrestlers ventured over to Gordon on Saturday for the Gordon-Rushville invite. The Cardinals brought home some hardware with the boys finishing second and the girls taking home the title. Individually, three boys won their brackets while five girls took theirs.
In the boys side of the tournament the Cardinals finished behind Alliance as a team. The Cardinals were led by titles from Zane Cullers at 165 pounds, Braden Wright at 175 and Bricen Wright at 190. Lane Davidson fell to Braden Wright at 175 to finish second. Matt Lein wrestled back from a loss in the first round to finish third at 150. Cade Smith fell to Bricen Wright in the championship semis before winning the third place match at 190. Colin McCoy at 106, Carson Long at 132, Tayven Jenkins at 138, and Leo Golembiewski at 215 finished in fourth place. Keigan Vanderhoef placed sixth at 132 along with Jayce Hoffman at 144, and Steven Smith at 285. Peyton Forsberg at 144 placed seventh along with Fletcher Stewart at 285. Also competing for the Cardinals in boys were Reid Griese at 138, Kael Bennett at 144, Nathaniel Stehle at 144, Parker Reitz at 157, and Max Brodrick at 190.
The girls side won the team title and had five champions amongst the team. Josie Werner took 105, Bristol Prado at 125, Adday Tewahade at 145, Addison Diers at 155, and Vivian Golembiewski at 170. Taylee Williamson placed second at 110. Lailee Smith got third at 100. Gianna LaPorte finished in fourth at 130. Gaycen OโDonnell at 140, and Abigail Bower at 115 finished in fifth. The Cardinals will take on the Valentine Invite later this week with the girls going on Friday and the boys on Saturday.
