McCook Woman Facing Felony Charges After Firing Gun Near a Teen

newschannelnebraska.com- A McCook woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly firing a gun near a teenager during an argument Friday afternoon.

The Frontier County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded to a call about a firearm incident at 12:42 p.m. at a McCook residence.

According to court documents, Kenya Wheat, 49, is accused of firing a single shot from a handgun outside the home following a dispute.

A witness reported Wheat became upset after pills were spilled on the floor and argued with a man at the residence. During the incident, a 16-year-old teenager began picking up the pills to discard them. Wheat then retrieved a handgun, stepped outside and fired a single round.

Deputies recovered a spent casing and the firearm at the scene. Wheat was arrested on suspicion of attempted a Class 2 felony, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and terroristic threats.

She was transported to the North Platte Jail by the Nebraska State Patrol. Her bond has been set at 10% of $500,000.

Authorities did not report any injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
