The Chadron Cardinals girls and boys wrestling teams competed at the Shane-Shattoe Memorial Tournament in Douglas, Wyoming. The boys team finished in eighth place with Quinn Bailey taking the 157 pound weight class while the girls took first place with Josie Werner, Bristol Prado and Taylee Williamson taking home silver medals.
The boys team entered 13 wrestlers in the tournament. Quinn Bailey went 4-0 to take first place, earning his 150th career win in the process. Bailey was also awarded the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler, voted on by the coaches after all wrestling was completed. Zane Cullers suffered a defeat in the semi final round but bounced back to win his final two at 165 to finish in third. Braden Wright at 175 went 4-2 to finish fifth along with Colin McCoy at 106. Lane Davidson went 3-2 at 165, Carson Long went 2-2 at 132 points, joining Cade Smith at 2-2 in the 190 pound class.
Reid Griese went 1-2 at 138, along with Bricen Wright at 190 and Leo Golembiewski at 215. Rounding out the boys wrestlers were Tayven Jenkins at 138, Jayce Hoffman at 150 and Fletcher Stewart at 285.
Thunder Basin took the team title in boys, Scottsbluff finished in fifth and Alliance in eighth.
The girls tournament saw no individual titles for the girls team but they did win their fourth straight team title.
Three girls finished in second with Josie Werner at 105, Taylee Williamson at 110, and Bristol Prado at 125. Addison Diers took home the bronze medal at 155, finishing third. Adday Tewahade was fourth at 145 and Lailee Smith lost in the first round but battled back to finish fifth at 100 pounds.
Gianna LaPorte went 3-2 at 130, Vivian Golembiewski went 2-2 at 170 and Gracien OโDonnell went 1-2 at 140. Abigail Bower rounded out the wrestlers at 115.
Next weekend both teams will be in the central timezone with the girls wrestling at the Schuyler Invite on Friday and the Grand Island Northwest Tournament on Saturday. The boys will duel at Broken Bow on Friday then compete in a dual tournament at Grand Island Northwest on Saturday.
