The Chadron Cardinals returned home for the first of three straight home games to meet up with Mitchell. The JV teams took care of business with the girls varsity team winning 41-26 and the boys winning 67-57.
The girls game was complete domination on the defensive end by the Cardinals as they led 14-4 after the first quarter before extending the lead to 26-6 going into the half. Reese Ritterbush had eight points in the first half with Gracie Calkins right behind her with seven.
Mitchell did outscore Chadron in the second half 20-15 but it was the Cardinals who got back into the win column with a 41-26 win.
Gracie Calkins and Reese Ritterbush finished with 10 points each, Sophie Watson was right behind them with seven. Cali Hendrickson in her first start of the season had four along with Jezy Alcorn. Brooklyn Hoffman, Jove Griese and Thaivunh Sayaloune finished with two apiece. Chadron moves to 6-5 in girls.
The boys game was a shootout with Chadron and Mitchell putting up a combined 124 points with the Cardinals winning a tight one 67-57. The first quarter was all Chadron but they only led by three at the end of the first quarter. Mitchell took their first lead 30 seconds into the second quarter but once Chadron got the lead back they did not relent, pulling out to a 42-31 lead at the half. The Cardinals got the lead up to 13 at times and it never got below eight in the second half as the Cardinals won their second straight game with a 67-57 final.
Thomas Smith and Brady Daniels combined for 55 of the teams 67 points. Smith finished with a team high 23 points and Daniels was right behind him with 22. Creighton Ryan finished with seven, Tobin Landen had six, Tyson Pourier had four, Talon Jelinck had two with Derek Bissonette scoring one.
The Cardinals boys moved to 4-6 on the season and have won two straight games for the first time this season.
Hemingford will come to Chadron on Tuesday for a girls/boys doubleheader then Alliance will be in town on Friday.
