The Chadron Cardinals started a week against the two high schools from Box Butte County with games against the Hemingford Bobcats. The Cardinals took care of business by winning the girls varsity game by a 55-29 score then won the boys game 53-32.
The girls game started with Hemingford hanging around but Chadron did lead 14-10. The Cardinals stretched the lead out to a 23-14 lead at the half. The second half was all Chadron as they out-scored the Bobcats 28-15 to finish the game with a 55-29 tally.
All 14 players suited up played for the Cardinals with 10 scoring. Jezy Alcorn led the Cardinals with 11 points, Reese Ritterbush had nine, Jacey Turman had eight, Thaivunh Sayalouine had six along with Beau Behrends. Gracie Calkins and Rylan Barry had four apiece. Cali Hendrickson and Cella Landen rounded out the scoring with two points each.
The boys game started with a 4-0 Hemingford run but a dominating first half by Tobin Landen and Thomas Smith turned the half around with the Cardinals going on a 29-5 run the final 14 minutes of the first half to lead 29-9 at half. Chadronโs offense slowed down a touch in the second half but they were able to pull off a 53-32 win.
Thomas Smith had 18 points for the Cardinals, Tobin Landen dropped 14. Derek Bissonette had seven, Brady Daniels finished with five. Cole Carnahan, Tobin Rust, Haiven Catches, and Trae Owsley each had a bucket for Chadron.
The Cardinals girls moved to 7-5 on the season with their second straight win while the boys are now 5-6 and riding a three game winning streak.
Now comes Alliance on Friday Night at the Birdcage. The Bulldogs girls team is 0-12 while the boys team is 9-3. JV will start at 4 with girls varsity set for 5:30 and boys to follow.
