Stapleton Principal Found Deceased

A Stapleton High School principal and athletic director facing sexual abuse charges was found dead in a Nevada hotel room, authorities said.

Logan County Attorney Andrew Van Velson said a warrant was being processed for Jeremiah Johnsonโ€™s arrest when law enforcement discovered his vehicle and found him dead on Jan. 21.

The Logan County Sheriffโ€™s Department was alerted on Jan. 20 by a parent who reported that Johnson had attempted to make sexual advances toward their student in a secluded area on school grounds. The student managed to escape, according to authorities.

The allegation prompted an investigation that led to criminal charges, a warrant for Johnsonโ€™s arrest, and the seizure of his electronic devices.

Following Johnsonโ€™s death, the Logan County Attorneyโ€™s Office recalled the warrant, and the case is now closed. However, Sheriff Sean Carson said investigators are looking into other potential incidents.

Previously, Johnson was a high school English teacher at Cedar Bluffs Public Schools from 2019 to 2022.
