The Chadron Cardinals girls basketball team took on the Hershey Panthers Tuesday night in the first round of the Class C1-10 subdistrict tournament. The Cardinals were given two extra days to get ready as the games were originally scheduled for Monday but had been postponed due to the winter storm that hit the panhandle. The Cardinals gave it their all but fell 50-37.
The first quarter saw the lead change hands twice while seeing two ties but it was Hershey that led 16-11 after the first. Hershey exerted more pressure in the second quarter, extending the lead to 28-16 at half. Chadron climbed back during the third quarter, cutting the deficit to a manageable 10 points at the end of the third. The Cardinals cut the Hershey lead to single digits in the fourth quarter but fell 50-37 to see their season end with an 11-13 record.
Jezy Alcorn led the Cardinals with 8 points on the night. Sophie Watson was behind her with seven. Gracie Calkins had six, Rylan Barry, Thaivunh Sayaloune, and Jacey Turman had four while Brooklyn Hoffman finished with two.
The Chadron Cardinals will return their entire roster next year with no seniors in this year’s group.
