
The Chadron High boys basketball team wrapped up the regular season Friday night with a trip to Lakota Tech for the first meeting between the two schools. It was a wild game that saw the Cardinals escape with a 60-59 win to get their third straight win.
The first half was a back and forth battle with the teams trading the lead five times along with twice being tied until the middle of the second quarter. The Cardinals finished the half on a 12-0 run to take a 27-17 lead into the break. The Cardinals extended the lead in the third quarter to make it 43-30 going into the final frame. Lakota Tech stormed back in the fourth, cutting the deficit to two multiple times but the Cardinals fended off every run. With five seconds left with Chadron up by four Lakota Tech hit a three leaving 1.5 on the clock. The Tatanka got a steal on the inbound but could not capitalize as the Cardinals escaped with a 60-59 win.
Thomas Smith finished with 18 points on the night, Talon Jelinek had 15, Brady Daniels scored 13. Tobin Landen had seven points while Derek Bissonette had four and Tobin Rust got two,
The Cardinals wrapped up the regular season with a 13-10 record and will take a three game winning streak into the subdistrict tournament on Monday. The Cardinals will be the four seed and match up with the five seed Valentine in Ogallala for the third time this season. We will have the game on KCSR with pregame at 4:45 with tipoff at 5. The winner will take on Ogallala on Tuesday.
