A Morrill County man is in custody after allegedly fatally shooting his father late Monday afternoon. Formal charges have not yet been filed against 29-year old Joseph Bennett of Broadwater in the death of 57-year old Rodney Bennett.
Nebraska State Patrol Administrative Services Captain Kevin Ryan says Morrill County Sheriff’s deputies had responded to the scene of a family dispute in the Broadwater area around 6:30 pm Monday and found the older Bennett wounded.
The deputies took Joseph Bennett into custody and requested the help of State Patrol troopers and investigators at the scene.
Captain Ryan says the Morrill County Sheriff’s Office asked the Patrol to be the lead agency after learning Rodney Bennett had died.
Ryan says an autopsy is planned as the investigation continues and that investigators have been assisted by the Sidney Police Department and members of the WING Drug Task Force.
