South Dakota Attorney General-Elect Marty Jackley has named a former assistant director of the Division of Criminal Investigation as the agency’s new leader.
Dan Saterlee is currently coordinator of the South Dakota Fusion Center, which compiles and analyzes criminal intelligence in support of terrorism prevention.
Jackley says Saterlee’s “diverse experience in law enforcement, corrections, and the military has prepared him to lead the DCI as our new Director.”
Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg impeachment over his conduct after a 2020 fatal car accident led to a leadership shakeup in the AG’s office.
Governor Kristi Noem named Pennington County State’s Attorney Mark Vargo, the impeachment trial’s chief prosecutor, as interim attorney general and he fired DCI Director David Natvig and Ravnsborg’s chief of staff Tim Bormann.
Vargo named Chad Mosteller as Natvig’s interim replacement and Mosteller will now return to his permanent position as DCI assistant director. Vargo himself will resume his duties as Pennington County State’s Attorney when Jackley is sworn in on January 7th.
