Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol removed 26 impaired drivers from the road during Thanksgiving weekend during the latest edition of the national seat belt “Buckle Up, Every Trip, Every Time” campaign, formerly known as “Click It or Ticket,”
In Nebraska, the state Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office provided grants to the Patrol and dozens of local agencies to help cover the overtime costs of putting more officers on the road Wednesday through Sunday.
In addition to the 26 drunk or drugged drivers arrested, Nebraska State Troopers issued over 530 other citations over the holiday weekend, one of the busiest travel times of the year.
There were 447 citations for speeding, including 21 for over 100 mph, 22 for no proof of insurance, 21 for driving under suspension, 14 for open alcohol container, 9 for improper child restraint, 8 for minor in possession of alcohol, and 7 for no seat belt.
Troopers also assisted 168 motorists in need of help on the roadway this weekend, which State Patrol Superintendent Colonel John Bolduc says was just as important as the citations and taking the impaired drivers off the road.
Bolduc also reminds drivers that “As the holiday season gets into full swing, keep in mind that winter weather is possible for the next few months. Plan ahead to drive safely for every trip.”
Go Troopers! Gotta make that cash for the state!
