Funeral services for 53-year old Delane Edwards have been moved from Thurs, Dec 22, to Friday, Dec 23, 2022 at 1:00 at the T&T Center in Wanblee, SD, with traditional Lakota services by Chris Grillo, Darla Black, and Russell Eagle Bear.
Burial is at the Quiver Family Cemetery in Wanblee.
A two-night wake service will be held. The first night starts Wed, Dec 21, at 2:00 at the Norris Community Building in Norris, SD. The second night begins Thurs, Dec 22, at 11:00 at the T&T Center in Wanblee.
Delane Luke Edwards was born to Charity Edwards and Benjamin One Feather on July 1, 1969 in Sioux City, Iowa. Delane made his journey to the Spirit World on December 9, 2022 at his home in Wanblee, SD.
Delane married Jewel Quiver on July 14, 1991, in the Lakota way and their marriage was blessed by Bernice & Jasper Milk and Charlene Lapointe. To this union 5 children were born: Levi Quiver, Mario Quiver, KaLonnie Edwards, Sun Rose (Larry Jr.) Quiver-Edwards, and Graceyn (Jeremy) Edwards.
Delane lived with his wife and children at the Sam Quiver Sr residence, then moved to their home in Wanblee, where they lived for the last 29 years.
Delane started a career in Law Enforcement with the Oglala Sioux Tribe, beginning as a dispatcher in the early 1990’s. He then became a Ranger/Reserve working with Norman Rogers Jr, and after a few months he became a Tribal Police Officer under Darla Black.
Delane also worked for the OST Elderly Meals Program, Eagle Nest TWEP Program, Crazy Horse School Night Security with Timothy Zimiga, END Janitor at the Service Center, OST COVID Security, OST Day Labor Program, and carpentry work with Chris Grillo.
Delane loved baseball, basketball, horseshoes, fishing, hunting, chopping wood, and being at home with his family and grandchildren. He also loved his Lakota way of life and Sundanced at the Quiver Sundance.
Delane is survived by his wife Jewel Edwards; children Levi Quiver, Mario Quiver, KaLonnie Edwards, Sun Rose Quiver, Graceyn Edwards, Gabriel, KaLeigha, and Darius Edwards; grandchildren ShayLee, Davon, ShyLee, Frank, Bobby, Larry III, Maya, Jeremy, Sage, Sinte, Gabriella, Nathaniel, Jeremius, Zacarious, Mario Jr, Paizley, Zaylee, Jaliyah, Lilah, Alora, Daniel, Selena, and Kaysi; mother Charity Black Bear-Edwards; father Benjamin One Feather; siblings Jennifer (Eugene) Iron Shell, Tony Edwards, and All One Feather Brothers and Sisters of Little Eagle, SD; grandmother Darlene Allard; and hunka moms Sandra Morrison, Julia Randall, and Inez Medicine Blanket.
Delane was preceded in death by his grandmothers Marth Eagle Bear and Iva Edwards; grandfather Narcisse (Marvel) Edwards; brothers, Isareal Black Bear, Floyd & Mark Clairmont, and Lonnie Standing Bear; sons Brandon Bettelyoun and Daniel Loafer; father-in-law and mother-in-law Sam Sr and Ernestine Quiver; and four angel babies.
Pallbearers will be Todd Randall, Sylvester Thomas, Elgin Young, Brian Hart, Marvis “Woody” Bad Cob Jr, Emmanuel “Custer” Quick Bear, Carl Moran, Stacy Blue Legs, Sage Bear Killer, and Richard Charing Hawk.
