After day one of the A-4 girls district wrestling meet in Bridgeport, 10 area wrestlers are still competing for a spot at the state meet in Omaha.
Five of Chadron’s six wrestlers are on to the semifinals. Taylee Williamson, Brooklyn Hoffman, Fia Rasmussen, Kenli Boeselager and Addie Diers are all one win away from punching their tickets to the CHI Health Center.
Of the 8 matches wrestled amongst the five, only one win wasn’t a pin, a 9-7 decision by Hoffman in the quarterfinals.
Sarah LaBere recovered from an opening loss to advance to the 3rd round of consolations, needing two wins on Saturday to clinch a state berth.
Gordon-Rushville’s trio of Jenifer Banister, Lainey Filmore and Kristen Heck are all in the 3rd round of consolations as is Hay Springs’ Hayden Boles. All four would need two wins to advance to state.
Matches resume at 9:30 on Saturday morning.
Prior to the meet starting on Friday, Chadron girls wrestling coach Caleb Haskell was named the Western Nebraska Wrestling Officials Sportsmanship coach of the year.
Haskell is in his first full year as head coach of the girls program.
