Chadron State College freshman, Keegan Gehlhausen, was selected as the Division II Super Region 6 Rookie Wrestler of the Year, the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced today.
Gehlhausen, a redshirt freshman, is now one of six finalists for the National Rookie of the Year. NCAA DII Wrestling coaches will vote on the winner of the award in the coming weeks.
He is the first Chadron State wrestler to ever win the award.
“Keegan has committed himself to the sport of wrestling and to our program,” CSC Head Wrestling Coach Brett Hunter said. “This is a testament of his hard work and discipline.”
The Pinedale, Wyoming native was an NCAA National Qualifier at 184 pounds after finishing as runner-up in the Super Region 6 that was hosted in Chadron.
Gehlhausen, who was named first-team all-conference and the RMAC Freshman of the Year, went 1-2 at the national tournament earlier this month. He upset the #6 ranked wrestler in the nation in round one.
He finished the season with an overall record of 16-12.
