Eagles To Visit Black Hills State This Weekend

After earning their first series shutout in school history last weekend, the Chadron State softball team travels to Spearfish, South Dakota this weekend to face the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets.

The series victory improved Chadron State to 17-22 overall and 15-17 in conference play.

Black Hills State is 4-28 on the season and in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. They have two wins against New Mexico Highlands and grabbed a win from Adams State and Colorado Mesa each, this season.

Last weekend, the Yellow Jackets were swept by the #12 ranked team, Colorado Christian.

Ashlynn Pauwels, a sophomore from Tallahassee, Florida, leads this week’s opponent with a batting average of .313. Shayla Tuschen, a junior from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, joins Pauwels with a batting average over .300, hitting .311.

Tuschen and Kayla Lee, a junior from Kearney, lead BHSU with 28 hits. Pauwels has a team high eight home runs and 28 RBI’s.

Tuschen also boasts the best ERA for Black Hills. In 16 appearances, she has a record of 3-13 with an ERA of 4.97.

As a team, the Yellow Jackets have a batting average of .253 while allowing their opponents an average of .404.

Saturday’s games are set to begin at 12 and 2 p.m., while Sundays will start at 11 a.m., and 1 p.m.
