Chadron State College holds its Spring Commencement this morning at 10:00 in the Chicoine Center with 279 undergraduate degrees and 58 graduate degrees to be awarded.

Although CSC held separate ceremonies for the bachelor’s and master’s degree recipients for many years, this is the second consecutive year with combined ceremonies.

Graduates who were scheduled to receive their degrees at Winter Commencement, which was canceled by a snowstorm, have been invited to take part in today’s ceremony.

Graduation will be shown on the giant video board at Elliot Field/Don Beebe Stadium, carried on Great Plains Cable Channel 20, and streamed and archived by the college.

Moments of Reflection will be given by 2 of the graduates.Jace Demeranville completed a cross-country bike ride for a CSC course with CSC professor Dr Kurt Kinbacher last summer.

Jaqueline Buhr, receiving her master’s degree in counseling, has been a fixture at CSC for 7 years with positions in Financial Aid, Project Strive/Trio, and Academic Advising, but is now self-employed as a licensed mental health practitioner.

The commencement ceremonies will also include the commissioning of ROTC cadet Chase Mestas as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U-S Army.

The speaker is Chadron High School and Chadron State College graduate Michael Sandstrom, an award-winning history and civics teacher at Chadron High who was recently named the school’s new head football coach.

Sandstrom is a Chadron native with both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from CSC, but who also has a master’s degree in American History from Pace University.
