Randy Rhine ends a 4-decade career in education today as he retires as president of Chadron State College. Rhine came to Chadron State over 17 years ago and has spent the past 11 as interim or permanent president.
Under Rhine, Chadron State had the biggest building boom in its history – $74-million dollars.
Added were the Rangeland Complex, Chicoine Center, Eagle Ridge Housing, and the track along with major expansions and renovations of the Math Science Center of Innovative Learning and Elliott Field.
As big as that accomplishment was, Rhine takes the most satisfaction from seeing the success of the Chadron State students and alumni he’s met and worked with.
He says it’s “amazing” to him the remarkable things CSC graduates have gone on to do and achieve.
Rhine has no serious regrets about any of his actions and decisions as president – nothing that he would do over.
He hopes that others feel, as he does, that he leaves Chadron State better and stronger than when he took over – and expects his successor, Dr Ron Patterson, to do the same.
Rhine and his wife Ann are moving to Montana, where she will continue to keep working in real estate when they’re not traveling or visiting their two grown children. He says they’re leaving Chadron with many good friends and good memories.
Dr Patterson officially becomes the President of Chadron State College at midnight tonight.
